photo 3If you’re looking to have a new AC system installed in your house to prepare for this summer, whether it’s a replacement for an aging system or the first system for a new home, you’ll want to make sure that you call on licensed and experienced technicians for the job.

There are many reasons to rely only on professionals when it comes to installation. One is that air conditioning technology advances every year, and it’s the job of professionals to keep up with the exciting new developments that are making cooling systems better than ever. Amateurs may still practice out-of-date techniques that can lead to an air conditioner that doesn’t work efficiently or effectively.

Below are some of the errors that inexperienced non-professionals may make when installing an AC. These are alarmingly common!

  • Pipes that are too long: The refrigerant lines that connect the two units (indoor and outdoor) are made from copper pipes. They shouldn’t be more than 50 feet long. If an amateur uses a long pipe, it will make it difficult for the refrigerant to complete its cycle, and the compressor will run continuously.
  • Overcharged refrigerant: An AC comes with a set amount of refrigerant, called its charge. It can’t be too little, and it can’t be too much either. Unfortunately, amateurs are likely to cram in too much into the system, which alters the pressure within the AC to levels that will damage the compressor and other components.
  • Bad outdoor unit placement: A unit that’s too far from the house will require overlong pipes, but one that’s too close to the house is also a major problem. The cabinet should have about two feet clear on all sides to permit proper air circulation.

You won’t have to worry about any of these mistakes when you call on us! We’ve been helping homes stay cool since 1990, and we’re fully certified, licensed, bonded, and insured.
