“What is the best brand of air conditioning or heating equipment?”

Friday, July 11th, 2014

“What is the best brand of air conditioning or heating equipment?” We get asked that question a lot.

In July 2014, readers of a national product testing and research magazine rated American Standard Heating and Air Conditioning’s air conditioners and heat pumps as the most reliable brand among leading manufacturers.

Kilowatt happens to be a Customer Care Dealer for American Standard which means that we have passed American Standards rigorous standards for service. The Customer Care designation also gives us access to better financing for our customers and special savings on equipment, not available to other dealers.

We are thrilled to share with you this exciting research report. But it only supports what we already know after installing thousands of HVAC systems throughout Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. American Standard really does have the highest level of reliability and customer satisfaction.

Energy Efficient Cooling Tips

Friday, July 11th, 2014

Residents and visitors of the LA area alike know how hot and humid it can get here, so it’s not surprising that we crank up the AC as soon as the long cooling season shows itself. But the cost of cooling can be overwhelming at times. It’s just as important that your air conditioner be energy efficient as it is powerful. As a leading HVAC provider in the Los Angeles area, our customers are always interested in saving money on their monthly electric bills, no matter what type of air conditioner they have.

Here Are Some Energy Efficient Cooling Tips to Keep In Mind as You Stay Cool This Summer

  • Know when to replace your AC. If you find that your system struggles to keep you cool during the summer months or that it fails to be energy efficient at all, then it may be time to opt for a new system. There’s little sense in having an old and obsolete system, particularly if you’ll have to get rid of it soon and it’s costing you a fortune to operate. Sometimes the best way to improve energy efficiency is to swap out the system entirely.
  • Preventive maintenance. The only way you can expect your cooling system to operate just as it should is with routine maintenance. We’re not just talking about changing the air filters. Your entire system needs to be routinely cleaned and adjusted for maximum efficiency and performance. Dust and debris only lead to higher energy bills. This is ideally done before the beginning of the cooling season.
  • Take care of problems ASAP. If you notice that your air conditioner no longer functions like it should, then make sure to have it repaired as soon as possible. Letting problems linger only leads to further damage and high energy bills. Find a quality contractor who can service your system.

If your AC is struggling or it needs to be routinely maintained, just let us know. We offer a number of air conditioning services in Encino that can keep you cool. Call us today.

How to Choose an Air Conditioner

Thursday, June 12th, 2014

It’s starting to get hot out there—do you have the right air conditioner for your residential or commercial space? Whether you’re starting out from scratch with a cooling system for your brand new building or your existing air conditioner is ready to retire, it’s imperative that you find the right system for you. But what does that mean? And what are your options? There are a number of factors to consider when making a decision as to what type of AC would work best for your home or business.

In today’s post, we’d like to break it down in further detail.

  • The Importance of Size. If you’re considering a new AC, then it’s imperative that you have a system whose cooling capacity matches the size of your indoor living space. This metric is typically denoted by British Thermal Units (BTUs). For proper performance and energy efficiency, your AC should be just right, neither too large nor small. Over or undersized systems simply will not work according to manufacturer’s instructions, and they may be subject to increased wear and tear over time.
  • Ducts or Ductless. Another decision that you need to make is between a duct based system and a ductless system. Do you want ducts? Do you already have them? If indoor air quality and energy efficiency are important to you, then a ductless air conditioning system (also known as a ductless mini split) may be a more appropriate choice for your home. These devices use multiple indoor air handlers directly within the living space, thus removing the intermediary between you and your cool air.
  • Year-round Comfort or Dedicated Cooling. When you’re having a new AC installed at your home, you may also want to consider whether to install a year-round system such as a ductless mini split or heat pump, or to opt for a dedicated cooling machine such as central air. There are advantages to both, but considering our relatively mild winter, heat pump technology may be the way to go.
