Attic Insulation Delivers Great Value!

Monday, December 12th, 2016

img_0827If you notice that you’re paying higher heating bills than you think you should, the problem might not be the heating system—it might be the insulation, or lack of it, in your home.

Insulation for Better Heating Efficiency

The key place where a home needs an effective insulation layer is in the attic. During cold weather, the heat in a home rises toward the top of the house where it easily escapes through the attic. But an insulating layer between the attic and the rest of the house slows down the escape of heat and keeps the rest of the house warmer. It’s like putting a wool cap on your head, except it’s a wool cap for the house. Thanks to this “wool cap,” you’ll spend less money running your heater.

But it’s hot most of the year where I live!

You live in Southern California, so the most common temperature problem you run into is the heat. With mild winters and scorching summers, is insulation in the attic really that worthwhile?

Yes, absolutely! People often don’t realize that insulation is a two-way barrier against the movement of heat. During cold weather, it keeps heat trapped in a house so it won’t rise right out the top. And during hot weather, it keeps heat trapped in the attic so it doesn’t get down to the rest of the house. An attic can attain temperatures around 130°F during sunny summer days, which is enough to raise the temperature of the rest of the house by 10°F. That means wasting more power to run the air conditioner. Good attic insulation is a money-saver all through the year, and one of the best values for improving home performance.

You can trust to our insulation experts to find the best way to replace your old insulation and put in an effective new layer in your attic.

Electrical Wiring – Safety First!

Thursday, December 3rd, 2015

Yikes! Sometimes we see something that really scares us.

This house had newer switches with dimmers so of course the homeowners thought the wiring was good. Nobody would put new switches and outlets on unsafe  electrical wiring… would they? Turns out that behind the upgraded finish pieces was old cloth “knob and tube” wiring, with no grounding! This home needed a re-wire immediately for safety!

If you look behind the switch plate and see a combination of old cloth covered wiring and new wiring you may be in a dangerous situation.

Please call for a safety inspection. 818-780-0701

AccuClean™ Whole House Air Cleaner by American Standard®

Wednesday, January 14th, 2015

Are you concerned about the air quality in your home?

Most Los Angeles homeowners think that their existing heating and cooling system is cleaning the air of these pollutants and allergens. The typical 1-inch throwaway filter that comes with most heating and air conditioning systems is designed only to prevent large particles from damaging the equipment. It is not there to make the air cleaner for YOU and your family.

You see, the average person takes 20,000 breaths per day of air that can contain particles and allergens. For children this number doubles, making them especially sensitive to air quality problems. Today’s homes are better insulated and more tightly sealed. This is great from an energy standpoint, but it also means that humidity, dust and indoor air pollutants are being sealed inside your home. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 50 percent of all illnesses are either caused or aggravated by poor indoor air quality.

In one year, more than 40 pounds of dirt and dust can accumulate in a typical Los Angeles home. With American Standard’s AccuClean, the majority (99.8%) of irritating particles like dust, pollen, pet hair and dander, lint, cooking smoke and even bacteria are removed from the air as it is heated or cooled.

AccuClean is eight times more effective than even the best HEPA room appliance and 100 times more effective than a standard filter or ionic-type room appliance. There is nothing on the market that cleans indoor air better. In fact when AccuClean was being tested, the independent testing facility thought the testing equipment was broken because the readings came back with a zero particulate count three times!

American Standard AccuClean filters the air in a three-step process:

  • The air in your home circulates through your heating and cooling system, carrying millions of airborne particles through the ductwork. As the air goes through the pre-filter, it traps the majority of the large particles.
  • Then, the air is passed through many small electrical fields, where each particle receives an electric charge.
  • Then, the charged particles are sent through a filter that traps particles down to 0.3 microns in size. This is the size at which allergens can get deep into your lungs because they aren’t being filtered by your nose and throat.

American Standard AccuClean is eight times more effective than even the best HEPA room appliance and 100 times more effective than a standard 1” throwaway filter or ionic-type room appliance.
