We’re a full-service air conditioning contractor for Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. But we go beyond full service to specialize in areas other contractors don’t. One of our specializations is older homes. Vintage homes have specific requirements when it comes to comfort because they were constructed in times when central air conditioning was uncommon in Southern California. For decades, window AC units were the only effective way to deliver any type of electro-mechanical cooling to these houses.
But we can add air conditioning to older homes that are much better than window units. We would love to offer you the air conditioning service in Van Nuys, CA that allows you to get rid of those ugly and inefficient window ACs and enjoy quality cooling around the house. We know how to bring older homes up to modern air conditioning standards.
Ductless Mini Split Heat Pumps Are One of the Best Methods
We’ll start with one of the best ways to add central cooling to a house without having to make major changes to the building: ductless mini split heat pumps. Think of these as like window ACs: they’re point-cooling systems installed in different rooms that have their own refrigerant coil and blower to send conditioned air directly into the living spaces. But unlike window ACs, they don’t need to stick through the wall. Instead, they connect via refrigerant lines to an outdoor condenser cabinet. You can have from four to eight indoor units for each outside unit. All we have to do to install this comfort system is set up the outdoor cabinet, then mount the blowers in the rooms that need comfort.
And because ductless mini splits are heat pumps, they also work as heating systems. You can have your household comfort for the entire year taken care of.
If you’re looking for a standard ducted system, we can also find ways to put in ducts in your house with minimal construction. We can add ductwork into the attic, place it inside walls where there’s room, or use parts of closets to put in the ducts. Our team has extensive experience finding the best ways to put ductwork into old homes; you can trust we’ll find the right tactic to get the job done.
Converting a Ducted Heating System
If your home does have ducts, but they’re only for a furnace, then you’re already halfway towards enjoying central air conditioning. Making the conversion isn’t as simple as just plugging in an AC system, since some changes will probably need to be made to the ducts to accommodate the new system. However, this is a job our technicians can do quickly. We usually recommend upgrading the furnace as well so the AC and the furnace will be matched to work the most effectively for your house.
You don’t have to make a choice now about how to upgrade your vintage home to air conditioning: call us and our older home specialists will find the best way to help you.
