The Advantages of a Ductless Air Conditioning System

IMG_6445You have more options for central air conditioning than you may think. You no longer need to rely on a standard “split” air conditioner, which blows cooled air through a network of ducts into the room. You can instead choose to have a ductless mini split system installed, which uses multiple air handlers placed on the walls throughout the house to blow air directly into the rooms.

What is the advantage of going with this type of air conditioning system over a more conventional model? There are a number of benefits to consider that might make a ductless AC the best option for your home comfort:

  • Energy conservation: Ductless ACs have high energy efficiency because they use smaller components that consume less electrical power than standard split ACs. They also lose less energy because they don’t suffer from heat gain along ductwork.
  • Zone control: You can operate each of the air handlers of a ductless mini split independently of the others, so you only need to cool down the rooms that require it. (This is another way that you will save energy using a ductless AC.)
  • More space: If you are planning new home construction or remodeling for your current home, a ductless system is ideal: you won’t have to worry about planning around space-eating ductwork! Ductless ACs are also a good idea for add-on rooms.
  • Improved indoor air quality: The ductwork in a home is a major collecting space for dust, dander, fibers, pollen and other indoor air pollutants. When you remove the ducts, you also remove this reservoir of contaminants—and that means better air quality for everyone in the household.
