At Kilowatt, our number one concern on any job is safety. Safety for our customers, and safety for our technicians. We are fortunate that we rarely experience hazards on the job. But at the times when we do, we’re very grateful to have experienced workers who know how to handle the problem.

Here’s a recent example of a commercial job we did that shows why you should only rely on licensed, insured and experienced technicians whenever you schedule work for your business. (Or for your home, for that matter.)

It was crisp and overcast morning in Los Angeles, the type of cool weather that we’re grateful to have during our long hot seasons. Our team was working on a job to replace a packaged heating and air conditioning unit on the top of four-story condominium. This is a standard kind of installation that we do often each month, and our technicians are familiar with the procedure.

To place the heavy equipment on the roof, we need to use crane. In this case, as the crane operator started to lift the packaged AC/heating equipment up the roof, the cloud canopy opened up and a hard rained slashed down. Rain is never good news for people who are working on a roof. Making the situation even trickier was the presence of electrical lines. Look at the photo: notice the high voltage wires coming from the utility pole and hanging across the roof? Our crane operated had to weave the arm of the crane through the tight space between the terrace and those power lines in order to deliver the packaged unit to the right spot.

The job went off without a hitch—the maneuvering of the AC/heater and the rest of the installation work—thanks to the skill and experience of our team. Having a great crane operator was key to the success of this job, and its shows the value of experience and attention to detail.
