What Are Two-Stage Furnaces?

Monday, December 28th, 2015

IMG_9454As a homeowner, you have a larger selection of furnace types for household heating than ever before. You might even say that the selection is a bit, well, bewildering. That is why it is very important that you have a professional HVAC installer to assist you whenever it’s time to put in a new heater for a home, either as a first installation or as a replacement for an inefficient older unit.

What Makes High-Efficiency Furnace So… High Efficiency?

Monday, December 21st, 2015

IMG_8221Two weeks ago we posted about replacing old floor furnaces with safer and more energy-efficient units. In general, older natural gas furnaces—regardless of type—are wasteful of energy compared to newer ones. The AFUE ratings of furnaces from more than a decade ago range between 60% to 80%, which means they waste between 20% to 40% of their energy when generating heat. New, high-efficiency furnaces, however, can achieve remarkably high AFUE ratings. Some ENERGY STAR-certified furnaces have AFUE ratings of 97%, which means they waste only 3% of the energy they use. The rest go straight to generating heat.

Monday, December 14th, 2015

IMG_9346We recently received a question from a customer regarding electrical wiring: “Is all cloth wiring made from asbestos?” It’s a good question and the answer is definitely worth knowing for homeowners who want to understand more about the electrical system in their house as well as any possible dangers to their families’ health.

Replace an OId Floor Furnace with a Safer, High Efficiency Model

Monday, December 7th, 2015

Old Floor FurnaceRecently, we replaced an aging floor furnace for a customer and installed an energy-efficient heating and air conditioning system for the house. The floor furnace was not only old, it was in danger of becoming a safety hazard. This is a good reminder for people out there that extremely old furnaces can turn into dangerous systems. It’s much better to replace the system than to try to keep repairing it. Not only are there more effective, energy saving systems out there, but they’re also much safer for you and your family.

Somebody Loved This Dog, Was It YOU?

Thursday, December 3rd, 2015

In July,  we installed furnaces at Boxer Rescue in Encino, CA. The whole crew fell in love with the same sweet dog.Rooney is a big American Bulldog with a gentle personality. He came home with us to our office in Sherman Oaks when we finished the job and has quickly become a member of the family.

FullSizeRenderRooney is a happy guy who loves playing with his toys and belly rubs. He looks fierce, but has such good manners I know he must have been raised by someone who loved him. He’s sweet with our other dogs and is a great listener. He never has to be told twice to stop doing something. He even let me stick my fingers in his eye many times when he had an eye infection and never flinched or fought me.

I can’t help but wonder if someone is missing him.

If you recognize Rooney let us know. Maybe his original owner couldn’t keep him anymore but they may be happy to know that he is safe and loved.

Here is what we know about him:

  • He was found in San Bernadino about a year ago tied to a post. He has scars all over his head and body indicating he may have been used as a bait dog.
  • Weight: 125 pounds
  • Breed: American Bulldog
  • Markings: He is white with small black spots, a black nose and a round black spot on the top of his head.

Electrical Wiring – Safety First!

Thursday, December 3rd, 2015

Yikes! Sometimes we see something that really scares us.

This house had newer switches with dimmers so of course the homeowners thought the wiring was good. Nobody would put new switches and outlets on unsafe  electrical wiring… would they? Turns out that behind the upgraded finish pieces was old cloth “knob and tube” wiring, with no grounding! This home needed a re-wire immediately for safety!

If you look behind the switch plate and see a combination of old cloth covered wiring and new wiring you may be in a dangerous situation.

Please call for a safety inspection. 818-780-0701

Every year our friends and customers write thousands of Holiday cards to active duty soldiers and wounded veterans and drop them off at our office in Sherman Oaks. We work with “Operation Gratitude” and “A Million Thanks” to make sure that those letters are delivered in time to raise spirits and make the brave men and women who keep us safe feel appreciated.

Thanks friends for participating!

If you would like to submit a holiday card (or holiday cards!); you can either drop them off in person or mail them in a envelope to:
