When you need AC replacement in Encino, CA, our team is here to help. You can keep reading for tips on choosing a new air conditioning system, as well as what to do as you wait for your replacement installation.

Shopping Around for an AC Replacement

Central AC

A central air conditioner is pretty much the standard for keeping your home cool. This whole house system connects to ductwork in your attic or basement that channels air throughout your home to provide an even temperature in every room.

With a central air conditioner, you can set the temperature on your thermostat and the system will keep your home consistently cool around the clock. Central air conditioners do have a bad reputation for being a less energy efficient option, but as long as your ductwork is properly laid out and sealed you should have no problems with high energy bills.

Heat Pumps

A heat pump has a very similar set up and operation to a central air conditioner. There is really only one key thing that makes a heat pump different. That is the reversing valve and additional function as a heater. When you have a central air conditioner, you also need to have a separate heater. But, with a heat pump, you have cooling and heating all in a single system.

Ductless Mini Split

A ductless mini split uses a heat pump operation. This means that it offers both cooling and heating all in the same system. The difference is that instead of having one central air conditioner attached to ductwork, you instead have several mini air conditioners across the different rooms of your home, with no ductwork required.

One major benefit of a ductless mini split system is that you can control the temperature of individual zones of your home. Plus, you stand to save around 50% for your heating and cooling costs since the systems are highly efficient.

Zone Control

If you’re interested in the idea of controlling the temperature for individual zones of your house but don’t want a ductless mini split, you do have other options. We can install flaps inside of the ductwork for your central air conditioner or heat pump. Then, you can use a remote to control how air moves to each of these individual zones. You can keep one area slightly warmer or cooler than other areas of your home.

Tips for Staying Cool

While you’re waiting on your new system to get installed, you want to stay cool. You may want to invest in a small, portable air conditioner that can keep at least one room or area of your home cool in the short term. You can also utilize ceiling fans or buy floor fans.

Utilizing fans is a great way to create airflow around your home that can make it feel up to 4° cooler than it really is. Early in the morning or late in the evening when it is darker out, you can also open windows and doors to let in fresh air flow, which can make your home feel better.
